Pink October

The history of giving at Bloom Foundation:.

Erika realized she was in a better position than most people when she got her breast cancer diagnosis and she decided to help other people. Erika’s original mission involved:

  • Cancer bags: canvas bag to transport to and from hospital, blanket, books, journal, metal free    pants, healthy snack options, hand sanitizer, mini deodorant, etc.

  • Shopping sprees for new clothes to make new cancer patients feel better and to help them buy clothes that fit their changing body sizes (ex. chemo causing weight loss; steroids causing weight gain)

Where is your money going:

The short answer is: DIRECTLY TO CANCER PATIENTS!

The long answer is that we want to continue to do Erika’s work, her main objective was to put a smile on the faces of breast cancer patients. It is a tough battle and having a positive attitude is vital. It’s hard to say she wanted to “make cancer fun,” but she felt it was important to lift some burdens off the shoulders of cancer patients and put a smile on their faces so they can fight the good fight!.

The future for Bloom Foundation:

  • Travel expenses covered and paid for to help relax and provide positive state of mind

  • $1,000 grant for a Wittenberg Women’s Soccer team player in Erika’s name

  • The continued gift of shopping sprees

Why donate to local, reputable, or smaller charities and nonprofits? Why is it better?

Gives you more power and say in where your money is going and how it will be used, instead of larger cancer research foundations that are heavily funded. Erika previously created a list of other reputable options for donations outside of Bloom Foundation that cover grants, financial aid, awareness, fitness and research. https://bloomfoundation.gives/grant-resources
